A barbecue on the South Bank? The BBQ Club is making it possible.
With the spring lockdown behind us, we’re moving tantalisingly towards summer with drinking and dining options aplenty. And already in place is one of summer’s most exciting spots: The BBQ Club. Back for an encore of their fab 2019 season, The BBQ Club has set up on the South Bank, once again led by Jimmy Garcia (perhaps the most hard-working man in the pop-up game). The food looks gorgeous, the table-mounted BBQs are grilling up a feast, and the riverside views are serenely stunning. Here’s what you can expect!
Like many of us during the lockdown, The BBQ Club have gone a bit mad at B&Q, and built a giant deck along the South Bank. White picket fences now surround private dining areas, complete with a lawn, parasol, deckchairs, and beanbags – no doubt bringing solace to those Londoners deprived of the luxury of a garden.
Steal a perch in The BBQ Club’s cabanas and you’ll be put in charge of your own tabletop Big Green Egg (a sexy barbecue dome, essentially) to create your own perfect BBQ tasting menu. Chefs will be on hand to help guide you through each course, which include 45-day aged sirloin steaks, adobo cod cheek tacos, togarashi five spice duck breast, and zhoug flatbreads with smoked aubergine hummus. So yeah, yum.
Meanwhile, if you opt for the Garden Patches, you can pick up drinks from the boardwalk bar, order street food, and tackle the range of lawn games laid out at the riverside picnic patches. Competitive types will find boules, beach tennis, and swing ball provide ample opportunities to go wildly over the top in pursuit of sporting glory. They’re available for bookings or walk-ins, and you can make a reservation on the website.
Passers-by can pick up flame-grilled burgers and wraps to munch on a walk down the riverside, but if you’re looking for a lovely lazy afternoon this summer, we can’t think of anything better than a riverside BBQ session!
You’ll find The BBQ Club outside the Southbank Centre now. Bookings are available on their website.
