Every year, May the 4th finds the world consumed with Star Wars frenzy as they celebrate one of the world’s most enduring franchises. There are plenty of ways to commemorate the day, from movie marathons to Star Wars exhibitions and shows (like the recently opened The Fans Strike Back exhibition). But Star Wars fans will also want to make sure they don’t miss out on a new piece of street art that has popped up. Unveiled at 9am this morning, a Star Wars mural has taken over a Shoreditch wall with some of the franchise’s most recognisable characters.
The artwork comes courtesy of the incredible street artist and muralist Nacho Welles, in collaboration with Global Street Art – the UK’s largest and leading mural-painting organisation. And following its unveiling, the work will be in place through the end of May.
Where is the Star Wars mural?
Head on over to Shoreditch where you’ll find the mural at 103 Great Eastern Street. It’s just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Old Street, or a short stroll from Shoreditch High Street station. Worried about missing it? Don’t fret because the public artwork has taken over the whole frontage of a disused building, and takes up a whopping 13 x 30 feet of space. You simply can’t miss it!
The first few people to find the mural after its unveiling were lucky enough to nab their own free signed print of the artwork. They’re also giving away collectable stickers to the first few mural visitors. If you act fast enough you might still be in with a chance of grabbing your own!
The mural presents some of the franchise’s most recognisable and beloved characters: Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Yoda, and Darth Vader. And, of course, it’s completely free to view; it’s street art, after all. Star Wars fans are encouraged to share their own photos of the mural using #globiwan across social media platforms.
