Glide straight into the festive season with the return of the gorgeous Somerset House ice rink.
Whether you’ve mastered the triple Salchow, or still stumble around like a novice, at least you can do it in style at Somerset House. Perhaps the most stunning of all London ice rinks, Somerset House’s frozen playground returns today. It’s the rink that launched a thousand festive Instagram snaps, but it isn’t just about the skating here…
Usual partners Fortnum & Mason are once again running the rinkside show, which means you can expect deliciously extra decorations. The Christmas Arcade will overflow once more with lights, baubles, and icicles, and that 40-foot humdinger of a tree will also receive the Fortnum & Mason treatment. They aren’t simply in charge of the decorations though, as you’ll also find them at the Skate Lodge, serving you champagne and chocolate fondue as you watch the skaters go by. How dreamy!
Returning for 2018 are Somerset House’s much-vaunted Skate Lates – a series of evening sessions featuring DJ sets from emerging talent. On the roster this year are Emily Rawson (with Rock the Belles), Ransome Note, Josey Rebelle, and Rinse FM. Iconic London venues Five Miles and Dalston Superstore will also contribute a set, and you can see the full line-up here.
Skating amongst the grandeur of Somerset House’s neoclassical facade is a unique winter experience, and one which everyone can enjoy. They host a skate school and dedicated wheelchair skating sessions, so there’s no impediment to getting on the ice. Glide on over before January 13th to enjoy it!
