As the mercury tops out over 30 yet again, and the city braces for even more hot temperatures on the horizon, everyone is desperately seeking a way to cool down. I don’t know about you, but I’m ransacking the freezer every day in search of icy treats and planning trips to the nearest lidos and beaches. But a new possibility has reared its head – how would you like to bob around London in your own private floating swimming pool?
It might sound ridiculous, but one London business operator has changed gears for the season to bring us some relief from the heat. Skuna Boats is famous in Canary Wharf for its BBQ boats and hot tub boats (and igloo boats in the winter). Visitors to the area will often spot their small crafts floating along in the water, with people grilling up a feast onboard, or warming their bones in a buoyant hot tub that takes over the entire boat.

But no one wants a hot tub in this weather! So Skuna has taken its hot tub boats and dropped the temperatures of their water-filled crafts to a refreshing 28-30°C. That’s the typical temperature of a heated pool or a water-park pool.
It’s cold enough to cool you down, but not so cold that you’ll get chilly while submerged. That means you’ll enjoy a refreshing dip under the hot afternoon sun, but you’ll keep warm as the sun begins to dip during a breezy evening sunset.
Instead of fighting for space at the park, trying to find a square inch of free space in the lido, or cramming yourself like sardines in a tin onto a train to the coast, you can spread out in “London’s”only private, floating ‘swimming pools’.” You can also grab some drinks from the dock before you depart, to add even more refreshment to your swim/cruise.

“When London hits a heatwave, you have to improvise,” says the team at Skuna Boats. “Think of our boats this summer as a private mini lido for you and your crew. Hot sun, cool water, but with the exact same epic views of the Canary Wharf.”
The swimming pool boats are available throughout the peak summer weeks. Dates fill up as fast as the temperatures rise, so be sure to round up your friends and claim your boat before the sun goes down.
