This gateway to ancient paradisical cities, jungle-wrapped ruins and star-piercing pyramids will open at Immerse LDN on July 23. You’ll get to uncover the mysteries of civilisations such as Babylon and Maya, following the story from the vast expanse of the cosmos to the rugged, moai-dotted lands of Rapa Nui. Every immersive room will be brought to life with spellbinding visuals, atmospheric soundscapes, illuminating sculptures and interactive elements, promising a dynamic and engaging exploration.

What can you expect at The Timewalk Exhibition?
This is a chance to channel your inner explorer, no hiking boots and binoculars required. The Timewalk Exhibition is a new experience from DEM Museums, experts in cultural experiences that combine art and technology to take visitors on an immersive exploration of history. This time, they are shining a light on four lost civilisations, inviting the curious to delve into the worlds of Babylon, Ancient Egypt, Maya and Rapa Nui.
But, before those civilisations walked the earth, there was Göbeklitepe, a hilltop sanctuary built by hunter-gatherers. It is the oldest known monumental architecture and the first sparks of a society, where monoliths carved with animals and symbols speak of a desire to connect and gather. A fitting place for an introduction – starting at the very beginning of human connection.
The Timewalk Exhibition takes you through five immersive rooms, focusing on each civilisation. In one, you’ll be able to gaze up at Babylon’s striking Ishtar Gate, as the ancient city rises from the thick mud and serpentine streams appear to feed sprouting greenery – but is the desert paradise real or a myth spoken into existence? Along the way, you’ll also learn about the role that the cosmos and water play in civilisations; how the Pharaohs hunted for immortality in the constellations and how the Mayans used cenotes to plan their farming and rituals.
Once you emerge back into the present day, you can head to the interactive photo booth for a unique memento: a photo of yourself transformed into the civilisation of your choosing. There’s also a cafe, if you fancy a bite to eat, and a gift shop which includes everything from artwork to tote bags. Whether you’re an aspiring anthropologist looking for a refresher on human history or a family who fancy something equally enlightening and entertaining, The Timewalk Exhibition is a fascinating window into the past.
