Market on the Mews will take the Selfridges experience outdoors.
Selfridges have made a fair amount of news in our pages over the years, from their wisteria-draped restaurants, to the pop-up coffee shop with a giant yellow slide, to the annual arrival of their Christmas shop (which comes earlier every year). Now, they’re back again with a first for the iconic department store: an outdoor market dubbed ‘Market on the Mews‘. Hidden away in a pedestrianised street behind their Oxford Street store, Selfridges’ brand new weekend market will launch on July 18, and will be filled with all sorts of covetable goods.
Market on the Mews has been designed with the local community in mind, but you’ll find a notable Selfridges touch with the addition of bright yellow stalls. You’ll also find plenty of post-pandemic touches, with perspex screens on every stall, PPE for market staff, hand sanitiser stations, contactless payments, and a one-way system through the market. Numbers will also be capped, with only sixteen customers allowed to shop at any one time.
Once you’re inside Market on the Mews, you’ll find a treasure trove of food, drinks, plants, furniture, and more. Amongst the traders who’ll be in place for the market’s seven-week run are Darlish (who do baklava-topped, Middle Eastern-inspired ice cream), Two Tribes Craft Beer, Assembly Coffee (who roast their beans down in Brixton), fab florists Moyses Stevens, and the Selfridges Bakery, whose selection of pretzels, doughnuts, bagels, brownies, and deli treats should provide the perfect market snack. A series of pop-up stalls will also be making appearances throughout the summer, selling everything from magazines to bikes.
You’ll find Market on the Mews in Edwards Mews, just behind off Oxford Street behind the flagship Selfridges store. It kicks off on July 18, and will every Saturday and Sunday until August 30, from 9am until 4pm. There’s also the promise of live entertainment and family activities at the market, which should be more than enough to keep you a-mews-ed all weekend…
