Savile Row is an iconic London street, famed worldwide for traditional bespoke tailoring harking back to the 18th century. Every year they pay homage to the street’s incredible tradition with their Christmas lights display. And this year is no different. Last year saw them throwing their reputation into the sky with a twinkling tailor-inspired display shining down over the street. The display took inspiration from tailors’ workshops and marked the first new design since Savile Row’s inaugural display in 2019. And this year, they’ve brought the shear-iously good Christmas lights back again.
The Christmas lights display is inspired by an iconic tool found in every tailor’s workshop: a pair of shears. And now, illuminated pairs of giant golden shears are floating above the street, paused while cutting through a glittering pealight swathe of ‘fabric’ above the street. The display runs from the corner of Clifford Street to the corner of Burlington Gardens.
Sustainable Christmas lights
Sustainability is at the forefront of the Savile Row Christmas lights display. The dazzling sight is made from 5,154 LED bulbs which use extra-low energy. The bulbs are both energy-efficient and planet-friendly. Additionally, 3D-printed portions of the decorations have been made out of 100% recyclable plastic that can then be reused again and again for different purposes. That’s a plus in our books!
Last year, Jenny Caseborne, Head of Portfolio at The Pollen Estate had the following to say about the lights:
“The Pollen Estate is delighted to introduce new Christmas lights on Savile Row, commencing the festive period at this iconic destination. The lights capture the essence of craftsmanship perfectly, with the icon of the shears at the forefront. Everyone is welcome to visit Savile Row to experience our new lights this festive season.”
