Portobello Road Market 1

Portobello Road is bringing their market to you this Christmas.

This little piggy went to market. And this little piggy stayed home and visited Portobello Road’s online market instead. Portobello Road is home to one of the world’s most famous street markets, boasting well over 1,000 stalls. People travel far and wide to enjoy their delicious street food, vintage clothing, antiques and even furniture. So it’s just as well that Portobello Road Market has taken to the interweb this lockdown, allowing us to browse through their many stalls from the comfort of our own homes.

Current lockdown restrictions have forced retailers selling non-essential items to close this month, which includes a great deal of market traders. Some traders have been able to offer delivery and takeaways during this time, however the majority have had to shut their (metaphorical) doors. Going online will not only help these traders stay afloat but it’ll allow Londoners to shop till their heart’s content. They’ll also be hosting virtual gift fairs in the lead up to Christmas, so keep your eyes peeled!

Kensington & Chelsea Council’s lead member for Economy, Employment and Innovation, Councillor Catherine Faulks, said “It’s a difficult time for market traders and local businesses with national Covid-19 restrictions – which is why we’re bringing Christmas online this year, to give people another way to shop and support local business owners until we’re able to visit again in person.” You can download the dscvr app to visit these virtual market stalls and have their goodies delivered straight to your door!
