Travelling the world can be a magical and eye-opening experience, but let’s not pretend it takes place without a few tears along the way. Specifically, from you and your dog when you’re forced to part ways for the next few hours.
Let’s face it, pets get quite a rough deal when it comes to humans daring to take a holiday. If you’re a pet-owner looking to jet off, it’s a catch-22 of sending your dearly beloved to a separate compartment of the airline, or just leaving them at home in the hands of someone altogether more unfamiliar than you, their favourite person.
Whatever your choice is, you’re getting that look of despair/evil side-eye from them at some point down the line, and there’s not much you can do about it apart from holding back the waterworks yourselves. Needless to say, many dog lovers would jump at the chance to have their ride-or-die beside them all flight long to the east coast of the USA.
Well, there might just be a way around all this, thanks to the beautifully-named K9 Jets. The private airline company is offering flights between New Jersey (which sorts you out for a pet-friendly trip to New York) and a host of destinations including Dubai, Lisbon, Nice and London which allow you to take your pet aboard.
They wish to offer a pay-per-seat private jet between the cities, which allows you to choose between booking a seat for both you and your four-legged friend, or one seat and banishing your pet to the floor (which, admittedly, is still likely to be a first-class upgrade seat in their eyes having experienced the uglier alternatives).
Can you put a price on the love you have for your pet? Apparently here, you can: $8,925, to be precise. It might be steep, but can you really resist those puppy dog eyes? A seat on the k9 private jet also covers snacks, taxes and refreshments.
Every passenger may travel with up to two pets. Dogs are not restricted to any cages, but cats might still give you that evil side-eye at being required to stay in their carriers.
Each flight is funded on demand, and when 75% of seats are booked, you and your furry friend will be safe in the knowledge that your upcoming trip is secured. In the instance of a route not commanding enough bookings, 100% refunds are provided by the service. Though, thus far, it seems the price hasn’t put many off, with sold-out routes across the board until the month of August. They do call it puppy love, after all.
