Just like no trip to Brick Lane is complete without devouring a bagel or stopping off at one of the fine Indian restaurants, there’s no way you can walk through without stopping off at the stalwart that is Brick Lane Bookshop for a browse. Impossible… you just can’t avoid perusing those shelves.
With many seemingly sharing this view, it’s no shock that London’s fabulous Brick Lane Bookshop has just been taken the top spot for London at the Independent Bookshop Of The Year Awards, part of the British Book Awards for 2024.
Last month, we found out the 10 London bookshops that were in the running for the award, on a list that also included the likes of BookBar, Burley Fisher Books, Round Table Books and more! Brick Lane Bookshop has taken the top prize, and has been praised by the judges for being a “lynchpin of the local community, offering free delivery to Tower Hamlets residents of orders over £15”.
Now that Brick Lane Bookshop has taken the prize for Independent Bookshop Of The Year, all eyes will now turn to the overall award for the entire UK, which it will be in the running for alongside the eight other regional winner. This will be announced at Grovesner House on May 13, and it will also put the winner in the running for overall Book Retailer Of The Year for 2024. No pressure then, Brick Lane Bookshop! Now could just be the beginning.
Brick Lane Bookshop has been a staple of London’s iconic thoroughfare, and will no doubt continue to draw in the crowds and champion independent enterprise. You can find out more about the bookshop ad all its endeavours for the east London community and beyond over at their website.
