The annual Performance Festival is making waves as the V&A celebrates 100 years of its awe-inspiring Theatre and Performance collection. To mark this landmark anniversary, the beloved museum are taking their anticipated festival to new heights, putting together a stellar line-up of events and programming including free screenings of West End shows.
This year’s iteration explores the theme of ‘remastered’, amid the unavoidable resurgence of revivals, remakes, and sequels across several art mediums. From fresh and exciting works to remixing the past for future generations, the Performance Festival will take over the museum throughout the concluding weeks of April.
Festival highlights include Bard Behaviour, a variety spectacular for Shakespeare’s birthday featuring drag, ventriloquism, comedy and clowning. Or, check out the Red Ladies for live performance art at the V&A, in which a group of identically dressed women will explore the museum for an unforgettable theatrical demonstration.
As for the West End screenings, catch renowned plays and shows like Julius Cesar, A Number (2002 Production), Accidental Death of an Anarchist, and more! Best of all, they are completely free of charge making it a great budget-friendly thing to do in the capital this spring.
We recommend checking out Julius Ceasar, an all-female production from 2013. The play explores the iconic story of power, betrayal and corruption, set in an all-female prison. However, there’s so much to do beyond the free screenings at this monumental celebration.
You can take part in their enthralling selection of workshops happening throughout its entirety, which include puppetry, song-writing, and more. There’s even one delving into the significance of one of Harry Style’s cardigans if you’re a superfan. For the full line-up, click here to visit the V&A’s website.
The V&A Performance Festival takes place throughout the concluding weeks of April, kicking off on April 19.
