Millions rely on the London Underground each year, and most of the time it’s a godsend for getting us from A to B. As we know, however, commuters have to put up with some rough for the service to continue running smoothly, which often means closures to improve facilities.
According to London travel expert IanVisits, parts of the Northern Line will close for over a week in April 2024 for this very reason, with enhancements to Colindale Station meaning that services north of Golders Green will be affected.
What’s happening to Colindale Station?
Lots! It’s getting an entirely new building that will mean it has a more spacious ticket hall and a lift to allow for step-free access into the station, a service that Colindale previously lacked. These upgrades will up the capacity of those able to use the Tube at this station.
Of course, this work will take longer than just a week in April, but the segment of the Northern Line will close ahead of the bulk of the works to prepare for the work to Colindale Station, which will close for a longer stretch later in summer 2024. There will also be a series of weekend closure to the stations between Golders Green and Edgware in June.
When are the Northern Line closures taking place?
This means that the stations at Edgware, Burnt Oak, Colindale, Hendon Central, Brent Cross, and Golders Green will be hit by the closures, with the dates of April 2-11 earmarked for the initial work.
The same stations are then due for three sets of weekend closures, which will take place on June 15-16, June 22-23, and June 29-30. This all comes ahead of a longer temporary closure of Colindale Station in summer 2024, though a date for this has not yet been confirmed.
