If I were to list my favourite restaurants in London, Nest would definitely make the cut. In fact, it WAS my favourite restaurant in 2023 – which is exactly why I had to make another visit just last month.
Nest, born from the collective vision of three friends, stands as a testament to Britain’s rich culinary world. From its humble beginnings in Hackney to its relocation to Shoreditch last year, this cosy restaurant has established itself as a beacon of culinary excellence within London’s dining landscape, at least in my eyes.
At the core of what they do lies a deep appreciation for quality British produce. Working closely with esteemed suppliers, Nest showcases the best that the UK has to offer. The menu, which changes regularly to reflect the season, is demonstration alone to the creativity and skill of the chefs.
From game to beef and seafood, each dish is crafted with precision and finesse, and is a credit to the magnificent team. Complementing the dishes is Nest’s thoughtfully curated drinks list, which places a strong emphasis on beverages produced with low-intervention methods.
Having been fortunate enough to try the game menu in the past, my love affair with Nest had already begun, meaning that expectations were high for this visit. This time, we got to try the duck menu – their current special menu running until March 30. Fortunately, those expectations were not only met but surpassed. The standout dish for us this time was the Choux Farcie; I’m still thinking about the beetroot glaze.
Perhaps what sets Nest apart is its commitment to creating a relaxed and personal dining experience. From the warm welcome at the door to the attentive service throughout the meal, every aspect of the dining experience is designed to make you feel at home. Despite being metres from a busy road, you feel miles away – almost as if you’re tucked away in the countryside.
The frequency of its changing menus is enough to keep fans on their toes alone, with some menus lasting only four weeks, and other special menus (including their upcoming ‘Veg Season’ menu) just a fortnight.
Best of all, the restaurant is also home to the Nest Cellar – a walk-in bar seating just 20 people serving wines, cocktails, and more, alongside ‘Cellar Nibbles’ including seasonal terrines and classic bread and butter.
With its new location and expanded offerings, Nest is one to keep on your radar and without a doubt is one to visit.
