At the ripe age of sixty, the possibilities in life are still endless. And the London institution that is the National Theatre is celebrating that very milestone by giving away thousands of free tickets to their shows.
3,600 tickets will be up for grabs on the fine Monday of October 2, which makes up 60 tickets for 60 different performances, and is quite the birthday blowout for the old gaff.
Now, before you go marking dates in your calendars in preparation for battering past people in the virtual queue, there’s something you’ll need to check. Namely your age; even if you feel fit as a fiddle at 60 like the National Theatre, you sadly won’t be allowed to take advantage of this free other, as will anyone aged 26 and over.
The free birthday tickets are exclusively available for those aged 16-25, and will drop between midday and 6pm, or until they run out (which will likely be ‘in a jiffy’), on October 2.
Plays up for grabs include those at the National Theatre’s West End and Southbank venues, and plays including the ever-popular Dear England, which returns after it sold out its initial run this summer. Productions of The Confessions, Death of England: Closing Time, The Father and the Assassin, and more will also be up for grabs.
Those who miss out on tickets (or are just TOO DAMN OLD to be eligible) won’t be excluded from the National Theatre’s celebrations. A production of Othello by the National Theatre’s Deputy Artistic Director is set to be broadcast worldwide on October 19. The show will go live on YouTube at 7pm on October 19, but will be available to view on the channel until October 22.
Ever wondered what goes on behind the curtain? You can also enjoy a BTS tour of this iconic theatre.
Those aged 16-25 can grab their free tickets from midday on October 2 at the National Theatre website.
