Sure, Liverpool may have won the rights to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Content, but it’s all about London when it comes to the UK’s representative. Mae Muller, who hails from Kentish Town, has been selected to represent the UK at the competition.
The singer has previously supported the likes of Little Mix on tour, and counts top-50 hits under her belt. She will sing an original track of her own writing at the contest as she hopes to secure a win for the UK.
The track, ‘I Wrote A Song’, is an upbeat Euro-Pop tinged track of female rage and empowerment. Detailing the story of someone dealing with infidelity, the track finds Mae Muller rising above the situation and using the experience to write a pop banger:
It’s certainly different from Sam Ryder’s near-win power-ballad performance of Space Man in 2022. But that’s exactly what we need to do to keep things fresh and bring home a win!
Who Is Mae Muller
Mae Muller comes from the Camden-bordering area of Kentish Town. She counts Prince, Sade, Gwen Stefani, Florence Welch, and Lily Allen among her many influences and launched her career through the power of social media – uploading videos and performances to Instagram and Soundcloud.
Mae Muller has in the past collaborated with NEIKED, Polo G, Marshmello, Trippie Redd, Kenny Beats, and more. Following a sold out tour in April she also hit stages ranging from the Reading & Leeds festival, Bestical, Isle of Wight fest, and Parklife.
Purportedly, Mae Muller has known the news for two months. Now, I get that a huge part of the job is being able to keep these secrets until they’re officially announced – but no way would I be able to keep the secret! No doubt that’s why I’ve yet to be asked to represent the UK at the singing competition. Yup, that’s the only reason: my inability to keep a secret…
