If you’ve been lucky enough to explore the streets of Tokyo in Japan, you might have noticed hyper-realistic models displayed outside of restaurants. Or, you might have even noticed it here at one of London’s must-visit Japanese eateries.
Regardless, Japan House London has added an all-new exhibition to add to your cultural calendar, exploring this curious yet captivating craft known as ‘shokuhin sanpuru’. This free exhibit takes a deep dive into this fascinating Japanese art form that boasts over 100 years of history. It truly shines a spotlight on how these creations are so much more than enticing window displays, but highly-skilled works of art.
You can expect over 47 different food replicas that not only represent dishes and delicacies from Japanese cuisine, but there’s also a range of beloved global go-to’s when we’re feeling a little peckish.
However, if you are interested in learning more about Japanese food, then this is the perfect place to do so. Dishes on display range from Okinawan goya chanpuru (a melon stir fry) to the indigenous Ainu ohaw (soup with salmon), as well as staples like sensational sushi.
