Calling all early-morning foodies – a recent study has done the hard work for you to find out where in Europe is the best spot for all your breakfast cravings. It turns out that if your number one goal as you travel around Europe is to eat the very best breakfasts possible – you’ll want to stay right here in London! Holiday site Love Holidays recently crunched the numbers and crowned London the breakfast capital of Europe!
Now, this news probably won’t come as a surprise to many of us. After all, the English Breakfast is the stuff of legend all around the world. And in a city so devoted to bottomless brunches, charming cafes, and brilliant bakeries, it makes sense that we’ve got this breakfast thing down pat. We promise we’ll remain humble though as we accept the breakfast capital crown…
Elsewhere in Europe, Rome and Paris rounded out the top three in second and third position respectively. It makes sense, that two cities renowned for their pastries, bakes, and delicious morning treats, would join London in the top spots. Is there anything more iconic than the Italian coffee experience? Or the legendary French pâtisseries?
How did they determine Europe’s breakfast capital?
To find the winner, Love Holidays started with a list of the largest cities in the UK and Europe. This list was then combed through to obtain vital breakfast information about each city. The research focused on:
- Bakeries
- Breakfast cafes
- Coffee shops
- Coffee cost
- Social media posts
But they didn’t just cast a wide net and include every single place. They made sure to look only at the best breakfast venues. As such, the data only included bakeries, breakfast restaurants, and coffee & tea establishments with a user rating of four stars or more. Using all of this information, they assigned each city a breakfast score.
London was ultimately crowned the breakfast capital thanks to our 3,589 breakfast cafes, 1,078 coffee shops, and 226 bakeries. It’s true – we’re pretty spoiled for choice!
