London is used to picking up accolades. Just this year, a study ranked it the best city in the world, and another called it the top place on the globe to check out street art. Sometimes, though, the capital has to settle for the position of runners-up; bowing down to the superiority of just one other place.
After narrowly missing out on the title of world’s ‘most Instagrammable city’ to Milan, London must also settle for second-place in a study to find the most beautiful views from restaurants in the world.
Aqua Shard has been named in the top two restaurants with the most beautiful views in the world, in a study that uses TripAdvisor data. Travel website Hawaiianislands.com has laid out the data for us, which placed the sky-high restaurant at #2, just behind Mama’s Fish House in Hawaii — which, to be fair, looks over something that no London restaurant can: the ocean.
What Aqua Shard can boast, however, is a unrivalled panoramic view out over the skyline of the big smoke, enough to leave diners so star struck that they’re distracted from their equally beautiful plate of food, if only for a second. Sat 31 floors up The Shard, the UK’s tallest building, it’s a unique dining experience that more than warrants its high ranking.
By TripAdvisor’s metrics, Aqua Shard picked up a total of 910 mentions its view in reviews, just below Mama’s Fish House’s impressive total of 1,202 mentions. Hawaiianislands.com also made a list of the most beautiful restaurant views in the UK, with three other London spots – Hutong (#2), Duck & Waffle (#4), Oblix (#5) – making up the rest of the top five places.
In the worldwide list, Aqua Shard also pipped some real stunners to the post, including Sunset Monalisa in Cabo San Lucas; The Beach House Restaurant in Poipu; and The Oasis on Lake Travis. You can read the entire study here.
