The Caribbean beach club Limin (pronounced lye-min) Southbank is serving its final rum punches and Trinidadian dishes this season. The independent venue, which gets its name from the Trinidadian for having fun with good food, drink, music and company, is known for bringing an island atmosphere to the edge of the Thames.
However, the restaurant will leave its sandy spot after this summer due to the impending redevelopment of Gabriel’s Wharf.
Run by proudly independent owner Sham, originally from Trinidad, the venue has an outdoor area covered in sand, alongside ample indoor seating, making it a regular host for large parties and summer evening DJ sets.
Trinidadian street food and signature drinks
The kitchen focuses on lesser-known Caribbean dishes, heavily influenced by Trinidadian cuisine. A central feature of the menu is the doubles, a traditional Trini special loaded with curried chickpeas, cucumber, tamarind, and mango chutney.
Although this spot champions food from the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago, there are also some dishes on the menu from other islands. For instance, you might spot Jamaican jerk chicken on the menu.
Alongside this street food staple, the venue serves up curried goat, calamari, seasoned wings, and heavily marinated pork ribs that drop off the bone. Sham also offers a few personal signatures, including the black-bunned Shamburger.
The drinks menu leans into the beach club setting with a selection of Caribbean classics. Bartenders mix traditional rum punch, frozen melon margaritas, and piña coladas, as well as a house-special Shamgria.
Another highlight is the excellent service. One of our team noted, “Moments after we sat down, we were speaking with staff like old friends, and generally having a laugh – something I noticed was happening throughout the restaurant.”
The upcoming changes to the Gabriel’s Wharf footprint mean the current iteration of the lively outdoor space has a limited lifespan, leaving just weeks left for Londoners to soak in the sand and curried dishes before the site closes, so get yourself there soon.
