Christmas looks fabulous in fuschia at Liberty.
Style-conscious hotels and shops are turning the Christmas tree game into an exciting festive arms race – just witness Claridge’s sterling silver effort last year. The early contender for the 2019 crown, however, may just have emerged, for posh department store Liberty have just unveiled a colourful floating tree that we’ve completely fallen for.
Hanging right in the heart of the Tudor revival store, the Liberty Christmas tree is pretty much impossible to miss. Blue and fuschia trees suspended from the ceiling do tend to be rather conspicuous, after all.
It’s known as ‘The Tree of Liberty’, and was reportedly inspired by a vision of the “All-Seeing Owl” (NB: insert tired, cliched Brexit joke here). The giant bonsai tree is covered with electric pink reindeer moss, upon which sit baubles, gifts, and a menagerie of exotic animals, ranging from a preening peacock to a bejewelled chameleon.
The result is striking to say the least, and dazzlingly unique. It’s a winning addition to Liberty’s always intriguing Christmas store – which currently features the likes of avocado baubles, to name just one frippery – as well as stiff competition for the yet-to-be-revealed St Pancras tree, to name just one top-tier contender.
Now all that’s left to do is hatch a heist so I can have it in my living room…
