London has experienced a real mixed bag of weather this summer, with just a few fleeting glimpses of sunshine amongst what – on the whole – has been a rather unpredictable season. But despite not knowing whether you’re going to require a raincoat, a heavy-duty fleece, or an industrial-sized fan from one day hour to the next; one thing that can rely on is the time the sun will go down each day. And after a beautiful run of long summer nights in London, August 25 sadly marks the final 8pm sunset of 2025. I’m not crying, you are…
Yes, since April 17 (thanks to the glorious power of Daylight Savings), we’ve basked in the glow of the London sun after 8pm every day. But on August 25, that must finally come to an end.
According to data from Time and Date, the sun will go down at 20.01pm on Monday (August 25), before calling it a night at the frankly ridiculous hour of 7:59pm the following evening (August 26). At least it had the decency to stick around for the bank holiday weekend, I suppose.

When will the next 8pm sunset in London be?
Well folks, I’d advise looking away from the screen now. You’ll have to wait until April 17, 2026. So, be sure to make use of these final five days of late sunsets. After all, sunsets have technically been getting earlier since the end of June. But this really does feel like the first reminder of the shorter days we have to look forward to in the latter part of 2025 (and indeed, the beginning of 2026).
Despite the days getting shorter, we do have that aforementioned bank holiday to look forward to (best weekend of the year, without a doubt) and temperatures are set to hover around 22/23°C over the weekend. So it’s not all bad. And hey, Autumn doesn’t officially begin until late September, so let’s kick back and enjoy the rest of summer, shall we? We shall.
