Can’t decide where to eat this weekend? Head to Kingly Court.
It’s not quite a street food hall, but Kingly Court is still an outstanding choice for the indecisive foodie. Head through the pale blue alley, and you’ll find a multi-storey courtyard bursting with a bunch of brilliant Soho restaurants. [Featured image: bookwormkat]
Like a Tardis, it’s a lot bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside…
There are no fewer than 21 bars and restaurants to choose from in this blessed quadrangle, making it a great shout when you’ve forgotten to book a table anywhere and you’re meant to be meeting in thirty minutes. With so many great options available, you can bounce from place to place until you find the table you need. Whilst the actual courtyard has remained open and empty through lockdown, restaurants shut their doors back in March. However, with the lockdown now easing, some of the finest spots in Kingly Court are beginning to reopen! Here’s where we’d eat…
1) Le Bab (open now)
Posh kebabs? It was only a matter of time, wasn’t it? Head up to this joint for wickedly well-made kebabs to please any palate. Not just for 3am anymore!
2) Rum Kitchen (open now)
Caribbean vibes abound at this colourful, casual restaurant: jerk chicken, yummy curries, fruity cocktails and endless Red Stripe await.
3) Shoryu (open now)
Forever and ever, ramen! Delicious bowls of noodly goodness are the order of the day at Shoryu.
4) The Life Goddess (reopening July 9)
There’s classic Greek cooking and excellent wine to be had up here. Get in touch with your inner goddess – and grab some take-home goodies from their on-site deli.
5) Kolamba (open now)
A recent addition to the Kingly Court family, Kolamba has made a splash with comforting Sri Lankan fare, including polos pattis, squash curry, and chatti roast.
6) Pizza Pilgrims (reopening July 9)
Another outpost of the wildly popular London pizza chain, the Kingly Court spot is the perfect place to chill in a courtyard whilst slowing stuffing yourself with slices.
7) Crumbs and Doilies (reopening TBC)
Sweet-toothed snack addicts will love this two-level bakery serving up cupcakes, big cakes, and, um, other sizes of cake. Yay cake!
8) Señor Ceviche (reopening TBC)
Explore the flavours of Peru at this restaurant. The key dish is ceviche, neat bowls of raw fish marinated in punchy citrus sauces. Perfectly refreshing in the summer.
9) Disrepute (reopening TBC)
Head underground to this VERY aesthetic cocktail bar, the home of many historical indiscretions, and perhaps, after enough top-notch drinks, a few new ones. Discover more here.
10) Cahoots (reopening TBC)
Last but by no means least, this legendary basement bar (which you can only visit with advance booking, FYI) is all decked out in retro tube furniture, and the Blitz spirit is amped up with punchy, inventive drinks that’ll have you leaving later than the Northern line. Find out more about Cahoots.
Other great restaurants and bars at Kingly Court
And that’s not all. Other fine options include soul food from STAX Diner, seafood slingers Wright Brothers, wickedly tempting comfort food from Dirty Bones, healthy fare from Detox Kitchen and bottles of bubbly at Shampers. You’ll want to go back again and again until you’ve tried them all.
Location: Kingly Court, entrances off Carnaby Street, Beak Street and Kingly Street. Nearest stations: Oxford Circus or Piccadilly Circus. See it on Google Maps.
