In February this year, musical pioneer and found of iconic channel SBTV Jamal Edwards MBE suddenly passed away. The outpouring of love that followed was credit the way he touched peoples lives and the effect he had on both those who met him and those whose lives he touched in other ways.
Today (August 24) would have been his 32nd birthday and, to celebrate his life, SBTV are hosting a Mega Cookup at Studio 338 between 4pm – 2:30am.
As it’s a big ol’ birthday party in honour of Jamal Edwards’ life, you can expect a star-studded lineup putting on a show for the occasion.
Expect big beats, crafted rhymes and soulful melodies from the likes of, *deep breath*, Backroad Gee; Big Narstie; Eugy, Fleur East, Harry Linacre; Jack Francis; Jayli; Josh Parkinson; Kimbros; Lloyd; Louis Dunford; Mist; Mode; Nadia Jae; Rachel Anson Shayna Marie; Sian Anderson; SNÉ; and Tamera.
Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, there’s also special guests appearing all the way through the event, as the day becomes the night, in a party that runs for over 10 hours with non-stop performances.
On a long, celebratory night you’ll want to tuck into something delicious to keep you going, and the cookup has you well and truly sorted in that department. Head to one of many food vendors, including Creps & Cones, to get your fill of the munch on offer.
There’s also a chance to make the memory of the night permanent by taking some snaps in the 360-degree photobooth or even marking the occasion with some ink on your skin from the on site tattoo artist.
All proceeds from the SBTV Mega Cookup will go towards the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust, which was set up by Jamal’s mother, Brenda Edwards, to remember and continue the tireless work her son carried out in his life to help others. The trust does this by combatting homelessness, supoorting people with mental health issues and providing young people with essential life skills, with iniatives including an “internship programme within the media industry for those that would not normally have the opportunity”.
