London is no stranger to weird and wild stores, experiences, and food and drink offerings. After all, our city is home to a store where you can buy everything from ‘Human Snot’ to ‘Brain Jam’. But there’s one annual event that always pushes the limits of our taste buds: the return of the Anya Hindmarch Ice Cream Project.
The limited-time ice-cream parlour has been popping up in London for four years now, and has just returned this June for its fifth iteration. The Ice Cream Project serves up mind-bending flavours inspired by “store cupboard essentials, vintage beverages, favourite biscuits and even classic condiments…”. In past years, they’ve served up flavours like baked beans, soy sauce, and pickled onions. And this year’s flavours are just as bizarre – if not even more so!
What’s perhaps most surprising is that even their strangest-sounding flavours are delicious. Somehow, they make it work! It may have something to do with the fact that each flavour is hand-made in small batches in Devon – using only the best ingredients.
But you’ll have to act fast to try it, because the parlour will only be in town for a few months!
What flavours are they serving?
Each year, the Anya Hindmarch Ice Cream Project unveils a dazzling, and sometimes gruesome, array of new flavours for curious ice-cream aficionados to try. And they also bring back some of the most popular and divisive flavours from years gone by.
This year’s flavours include:
- Aunt Bessie’s – aka yorkshire pudding ice cream (?!)
- Capri-Sun Orange
- Euthymol Original Toothpaste – eucalyptus and thyme ice cream
- Green Giant Sweetcorn
- illy Coffee
- JACOB’S MINI CHEDDARS
- Kikkoman Soy Sauce
- Lurpak Salted Butter
- McVitie’s Ginger Nuts
- MüllerStrawberry Corner
- Oxo Stock Cubes – beef stock ice cream
- Paxo Stuffing
- Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers
- Walker’s Shortbread
- YAZOO Chocolate Milk Drink

Wondering how this year’s array compares to previous iterations of the Ice Cream Project? In years gone by, they’ve served everything from Sarson’s Vinegar flavour to Filippo Berio Pesto ice cream! Other flavours have ranged from Branston Piccalilli to Heinz Baked Beans and Jacob’s Twiglets, as well as tastier-sounding choices like Kenco Coffee ice cream and McVitie’s Jaffa Cake.
You can purchase scoops at the ice cream parlour, or take home tubs to share with your friends. Go on, buy a few of the weirdest ones and see how your mates react!
Ice cream blind tasting
In addition to the ice cream parlour itself, guests can try out the Ice Cream Project Blind Tasting Tea. This allows ice-cream fans to sample all of the flavours, guessing and rating them as you go. You’ll receive a tasting score card and an Ice Cream Project pencil, and all 15 flavours to sample.
Bookings are recommended for the sell-out blind tasting and can be made for a minimum of two people. Book your spot for the experience here.
