A derelict townhouse in Stoke Newington has been temporarily transformed into a art exhibition, showcasing the work of some of London’s most exciting alternative artists. ‘Housewarming’ is the latest project from inclusive and non-conventional gallery, Art Friend, and is completely free to visit. What’s not to love?
With an aim to push boundaries and ‘smash through’ the art world’s conventionally white gallery walls; Art Friend have created an accessible, fun experience where the art work isn’t just hung on the walls, but splashed all over them.
Expect to see work from the likes of Adam Bartlett, Dave Buonaguidi, LouLou, Matt Dosa, and many more innovative London artists. Screen prints and culinary paintings adorn the walls, murals stretch from floor to ceiling and disregarded objects found around the house have been integrated into some of the work. Portraits of the artists run up the stairs and signs on the front of each door showcase which of the artists have worked on each particular room.
All work on display will be available to buy and a portion of the proceeds will go towards supporting Crisis and the vital work that they do to help those experiencing homelessness.
Art Friend is an inclusive space, run by female gallerist Shona Bland, celebrating work from artists of all backgrounds and identities. Passionate about making art accessible to everyone, the gallery has ‘no stuffy vibes and no admission fees’. Now that’s an art gallery I can get on board with.
Housewarming will be running until February 15. Find out more and plan your visit here.
