2021 not scary enough for you? Tune into these classic horrors curtesy of YouTube.
Horror movie fanatics are in for a treat this month, thanks to YouTube. The platform has decided to stream a selection of iconic scary movies to take the edge off of the dreaded January lockdown. You can expect some truly terrifying horrors such as Dracula, as well as those with a touch of comedy like Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Films will be available to stream from Fear: The Home of Horror on YouTube this Friday (January 15), and more will be released over the weekend. And did we mention they’re all completely free?

Tune in on January 15 to watch Dracula (1931) or The Mummy (1932) if you dare. January 16 will bring us Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935). And on January 17, we’ll have The Invisible Man (1933), The Wolf Man (1941) and Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) to feast our eyes on. All films will begin at 8pm, so have your popcorn at the ready and prepare to be spooked!
If you need some convincing to whack on a scary film this weekend, they have actually been found to help reduce anxiety. You may not think of horror movies as the obvious antidote to anxiety but research has shown otherwise. According to Dr Jocelyn McDonnell of Northwestern University, “Exposure therapy is a therapy that exposes clients to their feared stimuli with the idea of teaching the client they can handle the perceived theat and that the fear is likely not as bad as they thought it would be.”
And there you have it. If you’re struggling with anxiety during lockdown the third – and I think it is safe to say that most of us are, then horror movies may actually be the answer. Thankfully, we now have a wonderful collection to dive into while indoors!
