London is known for many things, and farming isn’t one of them. But, for 35 years Hackney City Farm has been offering Londoners a taste of country life in the heart of the city. So, if you want to trade the hustle and bustle of the city for a quiet moment surrounded by the cutest little creatures all without leaving zone 2, this is the place for you.
In actual fact, there is no better time to make a trip down to the farm as this spring, they’ve just had some adorable new arrivals join the Hackney Farm family.
Meet the newest residents of Hackney City Farm
If you make a trip down to the farm in the coming weeks, you’ll want to head over to the pigpen to see Fleur, a proud mother sow, and her six brand-new piglets who were born on 17 February.
There are also some new additions in the goat enclosure. Tansy the goat has become a first-time mum to twin boys who have been quite iconically named Cheese and Pickle. You can watch the tiny kids resting peacefully, which acts as a perfect mindful moment in our hectic schedules.
Beyond the newborns, the farm is home to a cast of other characters, from sheep grazing in their field to a striking white peafowl that surveys its surroundings from a fencepost.
A community project with heart
This green space is more than just a place to see farm animals; it’s a registered charity that runs on community spirit. Built on the site of a former brewery, the farm has been a fixture of the area for decades, providing education and a slice of the outdoors for Londoners.
The farm asks for a small contribution from visitors to help towards the running of the farm, including feed for the animals and supporting vulnerable people in the local area.
You can find Hackney City Farm at 1a Goldsmiths Row, just a short walk from Broadway Market and London Fields. It’s open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 4:30 pm, but you can check their official website for more details.
