Glastonbury Festival is a true highlight of festival season across the UK, with 200,000 descending upon Worthy Farm every June after battling it out for tickets. The country’s most iconic music festival took two pandemic-induced years off in 2020 & 2021, but has been back at its hip-swinging best for the last couple of years with giant acts like Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney and Elton John topping the bill.
In 2026, however, a return of their traditional ‘fallow year’ is expected to take place, meaning the Glastonbury faithful will have to go one year without their beloved festival.
Speaking to Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw on their Sidetracked podcast, festival organiser Emily Eavis revealed that the festival planned to take a fallow year once again in 2026, meaning that 2025 will be your last chance to party at Worthy Farm before the year off.
What is a ‘fallow year’?
Glastonbury Festival take a ‘fallow year’ every five years, and it allows the land to rest after the flurry of festivalgoers put a strain on it for four years straight each summer.
Speaking on the podcast, Emily Evis said“We are due a fallow year. The fallow year is important because it gives the land a rest, it gives the cows a chance to be out for longer and reclaim their land. And I think it’s important it just gives everybody a little time to just switch off. And the public as well.
“I know we’re in the middle of it but it is a lot isn’t it? And then you go away for a bit and it feels lovely when you come back.”
A fallow year will mean no Glastonbury in the summer of 2026, with a view to returning with a well-rested land to dance on at Worthy Farm in 2027.
Glastonbury Festival 2024 will be headlined by Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA this year, and takes place at Worthy Farm in Somerset on June 26-30. View the full lineup here. Tickets will go on sale for the 2025 event (which is set to be the last event before the ‘fallow year’ in 2026) in the final months of 2024.
