If you don’t know the name Yayoi Kusama, you’re almost certainly familiar with her artwork. You’re sure to have seen her incredible pieces all over Instagram and at the Tate Modern last year with her ‘Infinity Mirror Room’ exhibition.
Now, when the exhibition last came to town, it sold out months in advance. In fact, it was extended multiple times due to staggering demand and popularity. However, many of us still sadly missed the chance to see it. Fortunately, a new version of the show has arrived at London’s Victoria Miro today (September 25) – and this time it’s free to see!
Starry infinity mirrors, polka dots, grand pumpkin sculptures – the 93-year-old Japanese artist has been an Internet sensation for years. And with this new exhibition, the artist premieres a new Infinity Mirror Room alongside a new series of paintings entitled ‘Every Day I Pray for Love’.
The Infinity Room
Finally, fans of the iconic Infinity Room series can visit the show at Victoria Miro gallery in Islington as Autumn rolls its way into town.
Running from September 25 to November 2 2024, it is the artist’s fourteenth solo show at the London gallery.
While the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at Victoria Miro is free, you still need a ticket to enter. Unfortunately, tickets are fully booked at the time of writing. However, you’re not completely out of luck! As tickets are returned – because people can’t make it or change their mind – they will be released automatically on the booking page. So keep an eye out, and you just might get lucky!
More from Yayoi Kusama
Kusama’s new displays extend beyond her new infinity room and paintings. This past July, an enormous artwork from the artists landed in London. The artist’s “tallest bronze pumpkin sculpture to date” stands six metres tall, and can now be found in Kensington Gardens in South Kensington from July 9 to November 3.
Kusuma’s first permanent public work in the UK ‘Infinite Accumulation’ was also recently unveiled outside Liverpool Street Station. The artwork takes the artist’s iconic polka dots and transforms them into an enormous glimmering piece.
Yayoi Kusama’s new (and free) exhibition has opened at Victoria Miro, 16 Wharf Road, N1 7RW. The nearest stations are Old Street and Angel.
You can find Yayoi Kusama’s new pumpkin sculpture at the Round Pond in Kensington Gardens, W8 4PR. The nearest station is Queensway.
