Whilst the bank holiday weekend may now be over, there’s still plenty to look forward to over the next few days. The capital city will continue basking in the glorious sunshine that we’ve been treated to over the past few days. And – believe it or not – we’ve also got the very first post-9pm sunset of 2026 to enjoy.
That’s right, folks. After what has felt like an eternal winter, you can officially chuck your wooly hats and hot water bottles into storage for the next few months. Because despite the mild identity crisis that the weather in London has recently been experiencing; summer is officially here. And how do we know that to be true? We’ve had back-to-back days of scorching hot weather and tonight (May 26) marks the very first 9pm sunset of the year. We actually made it…

London’s first 9pm sunset of the year
According to tracking site, Time and Date, on bank holiday Monday (yesterday), the sun set at 8.59pm. Tonight (Tuesday, May 26), on the other hand, the sun will be keeping its hat firmly on until 9.01pm. Can you believe it?
This lovely late sunset coincides pretty perfectly with the heavenly heatwave that’s been drenching the city over the past few days. So, if you’re looking for a gorgeous spot to gawp at the city’s first 9pm sunset since July 2025 or ways to ensure you’re keeping as cool as possible in these (quite frankly outrageous) temperatures; you’ve come to the right place – that’s for sure. Happy shorts and t-shirt weather Londoners, we actually made it.
