With the rain showers and drop in temperature last week, it’s hard to believe it’s nearly June — I even had to put my heating on, believe it or not.
But for those of us craving some sunshine, we might be in for a treat over next week’s bank holiday weekend. In fact, temperatures are set to be a few degrees higher than popular holiday destinations like Santorini in Greece and Ibiza in Spain. So, it’s worth staying put for the Spring Bank Holiday after all.
What weather can we expect over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend?
According to BBC Weather, we’ll be off to a good start with temperatures reaching 26 degrees in the capital on Friday, perfect conditions for heading out after work to enjoy a drink in the sun. Is there anything more quintessentially London than this?
Those high temperatures will continue into Saturday, with bright sunshine predicted for the whole day. There will be a slight dip in temperature, to a not-so-shabby 25 degrees on Sunday, but we think we can live with that.
And for our bonus weekend day? Monday 25 May, the official Spring Bank Holiday, will see highs of 25 degrees too, so it looks like planning a classic bank holiday BBQ might just be on the cards.
We all know British weather can be a little temperamental, but these predictions seem to be indicating a blissful bank holiday for Londoners.
Are we in for a bank holiday heatwave?
A heatwave is officially named so when the temperature stays above a certain threshold for at least three days, according to the Met Office. That threshold varies across the UK, but in London, that threshold is 28 degrees.
So, while the upcoming bank holiday doesn’t qualify us as having a heatwave, it doesn’t mean we won’t be enjoying glorious weather.
The rest of the UK is also set for high temperatures, which I’m sure will be a welcome respite from the blustery conditions we’ve all been experiencing.
