IS THERE NO END TO WHAT BRITISH PEOPLE WILL DEEP FRY? There’s only one way to find out the answer to that question, to be honest, and Poppies in Soho make a damn good go at that mission every year – at least when it comes to Christmassy items.
They’ve tackled many items in the past, and this year the fish & chips stalwarts are serving up a deep-fried Christmas pudding to take us through the festive season giving us that sweet taste alongside the batter.
Promising the best (and certainly most unique) Christmas pudding you’ve had before, Poppies promises to keep that warm, rich, and soft flavour we know and taste on December 25 with an added crunchy crust to taste. You’ll have a scoop of vanilla gelato to enhance the experience and create the perfect mix with the batter-laden pud.
Speaking on their latest creation, the team at Poppies said: “This year we put it to our customers and asked them what Christmas delight they want to see given a touch of Poppies magic.
“A whopping two thirds (66%) set their hearts on Christmas pudding. So we have answered our customers’ wishes with the first ever Poppies Christmas Pudding, a merry marvellous addition to the menu. The rich flavours of the Christmas pudding are perfectly complemented by the crispy, crunchy Poppies batter. Both British staples come together to make an irresistible and memorable Christmas treat.”
Last year, Poppies served up mince pies covered in batter, and previous years have seen them present deep-fried pigs in blankets, Quality Streets, Brussels sprouts and Ferraro Rochers.
You can find the deep-fried Christmas puddings at Poppies Soho between December 16-29. Find it at 55-59 Old Compton Street, W1D 6HW (nearest stations are Leicester Square and Tottenham Court Road).
