Sometimes in life you have to live by certain mantras. One such that many swear by is: when in doubt, deep fry. Yep, definitely a thing.
Let’s be honest for a second though — batter can often (always) add a whole new dimension to your meals. Fish and Chips isn’t the nation’s favourite dish for no reason, after all. Well now, a well-known London restaurant, who are experts in this very dish, have decided to expand their battering prowess and the result is, well, a beauty.
Giant battered pigs in blankets – yes, correct: battered pigs in blankets – are now on the menu over at Poppies, and if you aren’t desperate, or at the very least curious, to try these then you might need someone to give you a shake and shout “but it’s Christmas!” at you. Come on, just look at them!
From December 13, you’ll be able to revel in the deep fried festive spirit over in the three branches of Poppies (Camden, Spitalfields and Shoreditch). These delights are jumbo sausages, wrapped in a strip of smoked streaky bacon from family butcher Walter Rose & Son, before being battered in Poppies’ signature batter, and deep fried to order.
Pat ‘Pop’ Newland, founder of Poppies, said comments: “A jumbo battered sausage is an essential part of any proper chippy. We wanted to have a little fun this Christmas by putting our Poppies’ twist on what is clearly the best part of the Christmas meal – pigs in blankets! Of course, done Poppies style.”
This isn’t even Poppies’ first rodeo when it comes to deep frying Christmas food; oh no. in 2019, the legends only went and offered battered Quality Streets, so we trust that Pigs In Blankets are very much the calculated natural progression.
Diners will even have the chance to win a free meal through the power of this creation. Simply snap your battered pigs in blankets and tag @popsfishandchips on Instagram (post or story) to be in with a chance of winning.
