Look, I’m well aware that London isn’t particularly thin on the ground when it comes to places to stuff our faces with delicious baked goods. But as somebody who is deeply invested (both financially and emotionally) in the capital city’s bakery scene; I’m always happy to see a scrumptious new spot swing open its doors. That’s right, folks – there’s a new bakery in on the block, and it the hotel in which it’s situated is anything to go by, it’s going to be pretty darn dough-lightful.
The new bakery in questions comes courtesy of Claridge’s. You know, the ultra-fancy hotel that’s been perched proudly in the heart of Mayfair for the past 170 years? Yep, that one. It’s one of London’s swankiest spots to have a snooze, but now the luxury hotel is turning its hand to baking. And I, for one, am certainly not mad about it.
Claridge’s Bakery
Claridge’s Bakery has officially opened its doors today (January 21), and is now ready to welcome hungry Londoners to snack and savour some truly delectable treats. Steering the bakery’s ship is internationally-acclaimed baker and chef, Richard Hart. He’ll be joined by Frederic Doncel‑Latorre, and together they’ll be serving up a carefully curated menu, filled to the brim with beloved British baked goods.
The new spot plans to ‘nourish the neighbourhood’ with the mouthwatering likes of Bakewell tarts, cheese straws, iced fingers, bloomers, granary loaves, sourdough bread, and sausage rolls. Customers will also be able to purchase everyday essentials such as fresh eggs, milk and butter from the bakery. Claridge’s Bakery will be dedicated to shining a light on the history and craft of British baking, with a menu inspired by Claridge’s quintessential history and Hart’s London upbringing.
Richard Hart said: “I am excited and honoured to be the executive baker and creative director at Claridge’s Bakery. My goal is to celebrate timeless British baked favourites in one of the most notable British institutions. Bread and baked goods are an everyday staple that brings people together and I can’t wait to share my take on it with Londoners and visitors to the capital.”
Claridge’s Bakery is now open on Brook Street, Mayfair, W1K 4HR. Find out more and plan your visit here.
