Here at Secret London, there’s nothing we love more than rummaging through everything that our city has to offer, uncovering the ultimate ‘I know a little place’ places. And a little place taking that title ever-so literally is Astrid Bakery. At a rather tiny 450 square-feet in size, Astrid is London’s smallest bakery and is just an arm span wide.
Run by Le Cordon Bleu-trained baker (and former fashion journalist), Charlotte O’Kelly; the beloved independent bakery is a true lockdown success story, having started out as a breakfast box delivery service back in 2020 (*shudders at the memory*) based out of Charlotte’s kitchen. After the unprecedented success of the breakfast boxes, Astrid found itself a new home in a quaint little corner of Muswell Hill last year. And the rest is history, really.
Every delicious item is baked on-site in small batches, using super fresh, high-quality and seasonal produce and ingredients, and served through their croissant hatch (something I plan on adding to my Christmas list immediately). And it’s easy to see why Astrid has become a firm favourite amongst locals, with pastries and loaves practically flying off the shelves. Their most popular product is their pistachio croissant, but we also loved every last crumb of the poached-pear Danish and the carrot and walnut cake.
With some darn good coffee and an array of vegan options, too, Astrid Bakery is the perfect spot to level up your daily coffee-and-a-sweet-treat. And they’re also opening their second location later in the year, just around the corner from their first, hooray! The bakery may be small, but its dreams (and its pastries) sure are mighty.
You’ll find Astrid Bakery at 118a Alexandra Park Road, N10 2AH on Thursdays – Sundays. Find out more and plan your visit here.
