Since all the way back in September – when there was still hardly even a chill in the air – one TV channel has been quietly spreading Christmas cheer. Every year, the GREAT! Romance channel transforms for the holiday season into the GREAT! Christmas TV channel. And for those tuning in, they usher in the holiday season with an exclusive programming of Christmas movies that run all day long, every single day. Running up until early January 2025, you can even keep the Christmas cheer going into the new year!
So what Christmas classics can we expect? ‘Elf’? ‘Miracle on 31st Street’? ‘Home Alone?’ Hmm, not quite. GREAT! Christmas dabbles pretty exclusively in feel-good low-budget TV movies. What some might call a ‘Hallmark Christmas movie’. They’re cheesy, they’re tropey, and the acting maybe isn’t quite Oscar-worthy. But they’re also exactly what we want for Christmas.
Classics like ‘A Joyous Christmas’, ‘The Mistletoe Promise’, and ‘The Christmas Cure’ have all been scheduled to air. No matter what’s on, you can expect some fairly similar themes. The films have lots of Christmas cheer, with storylines that centre (typically) on small towns and tough choices between a big-city job and a charming guy our bah-humbug protagonist met three days ago. It’s not exactly ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’, but for a quick boost of festive spirit, it’s pretty darn magical.
