The Alexandra pub in Wimbledon is hosting ‘don’t be on your own day’ as a lovely gesture to combat loneliness on Christmas Day.
With a free three-course meal, Secret Santa and general joy and laughter, Christmas at the Alexandra is for anyone who would otherwise be alone on the Big Day.
Owners Mick and Sarah Dore have been managing the pub for ten years, and, eight years ago, they started pouring free pints to anyone spending Christmas on their own. But three years ago, when they got a bigger kitchen, they decided to extend the gesture to a three-course meal. And there is absolutely no catch.
Alone tomorrow? Bugger that, come here between 12-3 & have a FREE Christmas dinner, 3 courses plus beer/vino & a sneaky Martini. All FREE, loads & loads come, please come & join us. Need a lift? We might be able to help, give us a shout. NO BOOKINGS, just come!! pic.twitter.com/RADCG08rmg

62 people gathered at the Alexandra last year, including older people, people who were new to London, or people who had missed their flights/trains to get home for the holidays. This year, they expect to see at least 100 people visiting the pub on December 25.
The local community always gets involved in the event, with shops and neighbouring residents donating gifts and food. The waiters and waitresses are all volunteers, and they even get people offering their time to help wrap presents for the guests.
So thank you, Mr and Mrs Dore. The world needs more people like you.
