Do You Like Chocolate?
…no, that wasn’t a question. That’s just the name of the new chocolate afternoon tea coming to London! (Because who doesn’t like chocolate anyway?) šš«
This November, Do You Like Chocolate? will launch at Kimpton Fitzroy – the beautiful hotel in the heart of Bloomsbury.
While many of us will be dreading the shorter winter days, this afternoon tea will welcome their arrival, and the onset of the season of indulgence. Speaking of which, the tea will feature cocktails paired with elements of the traditional afternoon tea… but with a chocolate spin!
Bake Off (The Professionals) 2019 Winner, Thibault Marchand, is one of the brains behind this chocolatey creation, which has involved months of research to ‘infuse the precision of the cocktail with the fragility of the patisserie’. Fancy, right?
Inspiration dates back to the ancient Mayan and Aztec cultures, when chocolate was used as a decadent spice, and even a form of currency! The afternoon tea is a celebration of this: chocolate as a precious ingredient, heroing its complex flavours and global heritage. We couldn’t live without it, so it’s time we paid our respects to our saliva-inducing saviour š.
Guests will go on a chocolate journey, with palettes travelling from Grenada to the Dominican Republic. Explore chocolate treats with a range of complimentary fruity flavours – try an Orelys & Coffee Tart, a Macae & Blackcurrant Petit Gateau, or a Mango, Passionfruit & Tainori Layered Cake.
Sean Fennelly, Director of Bars, is the brains behind the boozy side of things, and has created a series of cocktails to accompany the sweets.
The cocktails are based on chocolate through the ages: 1930s Italian futurists, drinking habits of the Mayans, the alehouses of 18th century London, and the legend of a Swiss chocolatier whose laziness gave us chocolate as we know it today. A tasty history lesson to say the least!
A selection of sandwiches will provide a break from the chocolate madness, as well as classic scones served with clotted cream, blueberry jam and passion fruit curd.
Of course, chocolate scones will also be available for those of you who just can’t get enough (us included!)
Guests will enjoy this mouthwatering range of food and drink in the hotelās decadent cocktail bar, Fitzās. The roaring fires and rich interiors will certainly get you in the cosy, wintery mood. Dark wood panelling, jewel tones and a dazzling glitter ball also make this dramatic space the perfect boujee spot to spend your winter weekend!
Do You Like Chocolate? Well, we already know the answer is yes, so get yourself down to Fitz for some seriously chocolatey goodness š.
