The beauty of Botany Bay…
Botany Bay is one of the most popular beaches in Kent, boasting breathtaking views of the surrounding vistas and its unique, natural quirks. The stunning white cliffs and chalk stacks have made it one of the most photographed beaches in the country and is a popular spot for fossil finders, who are frequent rock pool explorers when the tide is out.
Facing the North Sea, exploring this magnificent beach has become an institutional part of local life in Kent for generations. The beach is safe for swimming, surfing, and more, with the natural beauty bolstering the experience in the most magical way.
Its beauty hasn’t gone unnoticed either, gaining Blue Flag status in 2023, as well as many TV shows and films using the gorgeous location on renowned productions. From music videos for the likes of Bat For Lashes and Bebe Black, to the BBC’s breakthrough mini-series D- Day: The Last Heroes, this beloved bay in Broadstairs has become a star in its own right.
Lifeguards are on usually on duty at Botany Bay daily from 10 am-6 pm, staring at the end of May until early September. There are seasonal toilets as well as a nearby café, restaurant, and pub.
Where exactly is Botany Bay?
Botany Bay is located in the Kent town of Broadstairs, which is a scenic 45-minute walk from the town, as well as neighbouring Margate. It is the northernmost of seven bays in Broadstairs and is located along the Viking Coastal Trail.
How do you get to Botany Bay?
From London, the easiest way to get to Botany Bay is by car or train. It’s roughly a 45-minute walk from both Margate and Broadstairs, and taxis are available from all the of the Thanet towns in Kent. The train from London to Margate takes an hour and a half.
If you must drive, there is no parking at Botany Bay and it’s advised to park at one of the free spaces at Palm Bay Avenue (CT9 3PP). However, there are several car parks in the area, although not all of them are free.
