Don’t feel blue about missing the bluebells.
Escaping into nature has become an exotic premium at the moment, and means that, sadly, we’re missing out on a lot of the beauty that spring is all-to-happy to show off. Take the vast swathes of bluebells, which are currently carpeting Britain’s forests as spring comes into fullness; whilst it’s undoubtedly good for them to have a year of growing (relatively) undisturbed, walking through a sea of blue flowers would be peachy right about now. Thankfully, the good folks at the National Trust have come up with a solution, in the form of a soothing video tour of British bluebells.
Billed as a ‘slow video’, the footage takes a lingering look at the bluebells nodding in the breeze, complete with birdsong and the various noises of the forest producing a rather calming effect. The bluebells have been out in force across the country this spring thanks to warm, dry weather of late, and whilst they’re usually followed by a horde of tourists – as my hometown, which roughly quadruples in population during bluebell season, can attest – the 2020 bloom is an altogether different event.
The UK is home to roughly half the world’s population of bluebells, and they tend to grow in areas of ancient woodland, making them a national treasure. Though we’re unable to wander amongst them right now, the video makes for a wholesome treat, and will hopefully lift those lockdown blues, if only for a little while.
