The till-free stores are spreading like fire.
Welcome to the future, episode two…
Earlier this month, Amazon revealed the first-of-its-kind, checkout-free store dubbed “Amazon Fresh” in Ealing. Amazon Fresh stores involve no interaction, no queues and little fuss, with customers invited to pick up what they wish and just walk out. Bills are subsequently charged to their Amazon account. Now, the mammoth delivery brand has revealed that the second Amazon Fresh store will open its doors today over at Wembley boulevard. Locals are invited to head to the new Wembley Park location to pick up their groceries.
The branch in Ealing is the first outside of the US and, unsurprisingly, Amazon aren’t planning to stop at just the two locations. Matt Birch, director of Amazon Fresh stores UK said: “We hope to open a few more in London in areas like Ealing and believe it will work in residential areas and city centres.”
With the Fresh stores still in their infancy, it’s hard to tell if they will catch on just yet. However, one thing is for sure during these times – they certainly help with social distancing.
