Adejoké ‘Joké’ Bakare might be one of London’s most celebrated new chefs, and also one of the hardest working. Her restaurant, Chishuru, was just listed in the Top 100 Restaurants In The UK at the National Restaurant Awards. She was also shortlisted for the Veuve Clicquot Innovator Award, at the GQ Food and Drink Awards. But she’s not stopping there. Instead she wants to bring even more of her fantastic food to a handful of lucky attendees who will get to sample as yet untried dishes.
On Wednesday, June 22, Adejoké Bakare will host a one-off supper club. The evening will find guests guided through Chishuru’s much-celebrated food by the woman responsible for it all. Completely new dishes, as yet unseen on menus, will be served up in an intimate setting, and diners will be get the chance to participate in Nigerian dining traditions. Guests will be seated on the floor, and encouraged to eat using their hands. And just reading the descriptions of the food on offer already has our mouths watering.
On the menu…
The starters alone look to be well worth the price of admission, and surely enough to cover the whole meal. There’s “crispy goats ear terrine, lamb tongue skewers, goats cheek bonbons with ngwo sauce served with a crispy herb salad and wild watermelon seed custard with spiced toasted nut granola”. Tell us that doesn’t look like the full menu of a set meal. But no, that’s just to whet the appetite!
“Twice cooked goat neck sauce, fonio and baobab couscous with peas and carrots” will follow on from there. And than to cap it all off, we hope you saved room for dessert. Because the “sweet alkali pastry with date syrup and lime sorbet” sounds absolutely amazing. Even without all the acclaim, this looks to be a meal that anyone would be foolish to miss out on. But knowing that it’s from one of the most celebrated people working in the London restaurant business makes it all the more exciting. It makes sense though, as before she opened Chishuru Adejoké Bakare had made a name for herself hosting dinner parties and supper clubs. She’s a pro at it by now.
The event will take place in Brixton, near Chishuru, at BRXTN Village Studios, 14B Market Row, and starts at 6:30pm. Tickets are priced at £55 per person for the dinner. Beer, wine, and cocktails will be available for purchase on the night. Be sure to grab one from here.
