As though we’re all on a bad date, the topic of the weather really has been the talk of the town recently. I mean, you can’t really blame us, can you? What with the unseasonable warmth and the prospect of the largest El Niño in living memory on the horizon. And I come bearing yet another subject to chuck into the climate-based conversation, as the team at Online Betting Guide have just revealed the odds of the UK experiencing a white Christmas this year.
With just over two months to go until the big day, of course any forecasts at this point are very much subject to change. In fact, these early odds are primarily based on historical weather patterns – and it’s pretty tricky to know exactly how the developing El Niño phenomenon will affect the UK’s weather this winter. But for now, this is what we have to go off – so it’s going to have to do.

Nine locations across the UK were put under the microscope for the occasion. And the recent predictions have revealed that – rather unsurprisingly – Edinburgh is currently leading the race, boasting a 33.3% chance of experiencing a festive flurry of flakes on Christmas Day this year. The English city with the highest odds is Newcastle (25%), whilst our pals up in Manchester currently boast a 20% probability of a white Christmas.
So, what about London, I hear you ask? It’ll likely come as no surprise to discover that our capital city is perched at the bottom of the likelihood list, with a rather meagre 14.3% chance of snow on Christmas Day.
All it takes for a Christmas to officially be considered ‘white’ is for a single recorded snowflake to fall at any point during the 24 hours of December 25. The last wide-spread white Christmas in the UK was all the way back in 2010, so I wouldn’t be dusting off your snow suits just yet, folks.
