There are two types of people in this world. Those who think that making plans for January 2027 when we haven’t even had Halloween yet, let alone Christmas, is pretty crazy, and those who are chomping at the bit to make plans for the dark and dreary months.
For those of you on team “it’s never too early to make plans”, I am very pleased to reveal that Canary Wharf will once again be transformed with world-class light art by acclaimed UK and international artists. From Tuesday 19 January until Saturday 30 January 2027.
Canary Wharf winter lights

For the past decade, this light festival has been hugely popular thanks to the stunning showcase of illuminated displays in one of the most iconic areas of the city. It’s a brilliant way of seeing familiar streets, parks and waterways in a whole new light (pardon the pun).
One of the best things about the festival, and what keeps people returning year after year, is that it’s completely free! This is a huge plus, as we all know the bank accounts are looking particularly dry at this time of year after all the Christmas merriment.
The theme for this year is “RE(IMAGINE)”, which organisers say puts an emphasis on revisiting, reusing, recycling, perhaps returning to an idea or thought and realising it anew.
Pippa Dale, Associate Director Arts & Events at CWG says, “Winter Lights has proven itself as a mainstay on the London calendar and we couldn’t be happier that people return every January to take in the joy of light art. As ever, 2027’s festival promises an array of diverse installations including new commissions, as well as several UK debuts. We can’t wait to welcome you back.”
If you want more details on the event, we’ll be updating you as soon as new information is released, including the artist line-up, which is set to be announced in January.
