Over the past few years, it’s become more and more common to find city-dwellers hotfooting it out of London and heading to one of the city’s surrounding towns in pursuit of fresh air, friendly neighbours, balance, and – well.. a bit more of a bargain. But with so many scenic spots buckled into the capital’s commuter belt, it’s rather tricky knowing which of them are worth vacating London life for. If only there were some property pros that could give us an encouraging nudge in the right direction. Oh wait…
The lovely lot over at Knight Frank have recently compiled a list of the best commuter towns near London and published it on The View for us all to feast our eyes on. These well-connected locations allure Londoners away from the city with their price and proximity to nature. But which of them topped the charts as the best commuter town of all, I hear you ask? Well, folks, that would be Sevenoaks in Kent.

Sevenoaks, Kent
Just 21 minutes from London Bridge by train, Sevenoaks is a rather gorgeous town boasting pretty much everything you could want or need from a commuter town. With some outstanding schools, a stunning National Trust-owned park, and a fair bit of history, it’s not too tricky to see why it find itself atop Knight Frank’s list.
“Certain pockets of Sevenoaks, particularly around Knole Park and Sevenoaks School, have always been highly sought after,” said James Storey, a Partner in Knight Frank’s Sevenoaks office. “But we’re increasingly seeing buyers prioritise homes within a five to 10-minute walk of the station, reflecting the growing importance of convenient commuting.”
Now, it’s certainly worth mentioning that snapping up a property in Sevenoaks is still relatively pricey. The average cost of terraced house in the Kent town is £515,194, but the average price of a detached property is a rather eye-watering £1,580,148 – making the overall average house price £904,370. Guildford, Cobham, Newbury, and Oxford were the 4 other commuter hotspots that earned themselves a place on the list. And if you want to find out more about them, you can do so here.
