When looking for somewhere to live, what’s most important to you? Some people might prefer to be in the middle of the action, with local pubs, nightlife, restaurants, and more right on their doorstep. But others might be looking for a more peaceful pace at home, without the hubbub of the city outside their window. If you’re one of the latter types of people, then you’re in luck, because property specialists SAM Conveyancing has recently ranked each of London’s boroughs to find the most peaceful place to live in the city.
To come up with the list, they looked at 4 specific criteria, each of which was given equal weighting for the final peacefulness score. These were:
- noise levels at night
- crime levels
- public green space
- proximity to nightlife venues such as pubs, bars and clubs
And coming out on top in London, as the most peaceful place to live in the city, was:
*drum roll please*

The leafy south-west borough rose to the top of the list thanks in large part to its green spaces and low crime rate. The area is home to “115.3 square metres of publicly accessible green space per resident, the third most of any area in England and Wales…. It also records the lowest crime rate in the capital at 57.3 offences per 1,000 residents.”
At the other end of the spectrum was Kensington and Chelsea, which was officially declared the least peaceful place to live in London. This is in large part due to the noise within the bustling borough. “Some 89.3% of its residents live with night-time transport noise above the 40 decibel guideline and 29.5% exposed to noise above 55 decibels, the level at which sleep is most commonly disrupted”.
