You can do a lot of things on boats these days. From luxury cruises to ABBA parties to a Horrible Histories tour of the Thames, the options are endless – but a new boating activity that claims to be the first of its kind in the UK has rocked up in London to let off some steam.
Found in Canary Wharf, this new ‘sauna boat’ has arrived from Sweden with all the health benefits of both sauna and cold plunges – but with the added novelty of it floating on the Thames.
The sauna on the water opened its doors on April 26, which just so happened to be World Sauna Day, bringing a 15-person, Scandinavian-style wood-fired sauna to stressed-out city-dwellers.

Skuna Boats, who are behind this sauna boat, are hoping to launch this across the country; luring people in with the 70-90°C sauna, before a dip in the 6°C rooftop cold plunge pool. There will be DJs on hand to add to the experience and turn it into a more social setting, not to mention the stunning views of the city around you.
Speaking about the opening, Skuna Boats founder Tommo Thompson said: “We hope the UK’s first Sauna Boat captures the nation’s attention! Our vision is not only to bring the powerful health and wellness benefits of saunas and cold plunges to London, but also to embrace the sauna’s Scandinavian roots, where the social aspect plays a central role. Expect an incredible, authentic Scandinavian Sauna experience, complete with DJ curated music – all whilst taking in the views of iconic and historic Canary Wharf! This is the first of many Sauna Boats for the UK as we plan to sail them to waters across the UK.”
