Those of us—and there are many—who fritter away free time by consuming hours of Instagram food content will undoubtedly be familiar with the work of Whyte Rushen. You might have even been along to one of his pop-ups in the city to try his dishes first-hand.
But now, the celebrity chef’s first permanent restaurant is landing, so we can perhaps expect more of the hot, hot sandwiches; grilled plates of meat; and of course, the trademark oozing burgers. Or something completely different – there’s no news on the menu just yet. Whyte Rushen has cooked in kitchens like Scully St James’s and Brat, and has held multiple burger pop-ups, so your guess is as good as ours as to what guests could be served up.
The chef took to Instagram last month to announce his newest venture: a permanent restaurant in Hackney. After a hitch along the way that saw a change to the site, he has now confirmed that the restaurant will open on Mare Street on December 7. And if you’re not planning your festive get-together here, what are you doing?
Whytes is now full steam ahead (you can follow the restaurant’s new page here) and it comes after Whyte Rushen later announced that the venue had a last-minute change from their original site in November. He then urged would-be patrons and friends to donate to the GoFundMe link he initially set up to get the restaurant off the ground.
Speaking last month on the announcement of his new restaurant, Whyte Rushen said: “So I’ve kept this a bit quiet aint I, but after a long, long road travelled, (honestly what we’ve achieved with our little outfit of mates is nuts) years of pop ups, events and takeovers, working with an insane roster of chefs, restaurants, brands and establishments all whilst serving the masses, and hopefully having made a few people happy along the way, we’re finally settling down.
“It’s with a mix of every emotion humanly available, excitement, pride, anxiety, fear, joy and all the rest, that I can finally announce, we’ve found a site, a restaurant, a hub, a home in Hackney…”
You’ll find Whytes at Unit 3, 143 Mare Street, E8 3RH from this Thursday (December 7), and the booking link for reservations went live yesterday.
