Yeah, love! Yeah, Brixton!
Back in April 2017, Hannah Shanks captured the hearts of the nation (or, south London, at least) with her romantic proposal to girlfriend Katy LeLion on the marquee of Brixton’s Ritzy Cinema.
After an anxious night of waiting, Katy discovered the message the following morning on their daily shared bus commute, and – who wouldn’t? – said a big fat YES. Awwwwwwww.
Sixteen months later, the happy couple have finally gotten hitched – basically just around the corner! And by all accounts, it was QUITE A DAY.
But the first order of business was the Actual Legal Wedding bit at Chelsea Town Hall, joined by their immediate family to witness the occasion…
…a momentous milestone celebrated, naturally, with the traditional south London banquet: a tub of fried chicken.
A week later, the brides got together at street food mecca Pop Brixton for a full celebration. (No, we didn’t know you could do that, either!)
Vows were exchanged, with Katy’s uncle leading the service:
EXTREME LOVE FACES were pulled:
Aisles walked:
And first dances danced:
The brides even had an ‘incredible’ gospel choir on hand to soundtrack some karaoke…
…as festivities continued into the night.
Hannah and Katy even found the time to carouse around Brixton on a wedding shoot!
‘The best things in life are food, music, drink and general all-round good vibes,’ Katy tells us, ‘and you can guarantee all the above everywhere you go in Brixton.’
‘We have a lot of memories there so always seemed such an obvious choice for wedding number two. Especially after that crazy Ritzy engagement!’
Katy, left, wore a ‘simple, light, no frills, low cut dress from Reformation’, picked out by her best woman, while Hannah wore an ‘excellent flared jumpsuit from Les Heroines.’
‘Other than occasionally thinking we looked like an ABBA tribute band,’ said Katy, ‘overall we matched pretty well!’
We have a lot of love for the ushers’ sequin jackets, too.
‘It’s difficult to fully express how fantastically happy, loving, generous and enthusiastic everyone has been! They were the best days EVER!’
EMOTIONS! And, indeed, goals. Congratulations, Hannah and Katy, may you have a lifetime of KFC and sequins together.
