There’s a new fancy food shop on the block, folks – and it can be found inside the former Galtymore Ballroom in Cricklewood. The north London locale has officially become the most recent recipient of a swanky Waitrose supermarket. And it’s the first ‘full-line’ store that the brand has opened in eight years.
The major new store has transformed the building that housed the iconic Irish dance hall from the 1950s until well into the noughties. Just a stone’s throw from Cricklewood station, the conveniently-located 18,000 square-feet space has been jam-packed with all manner of grocery items and household essentials, ready to fill the shopping bags of north Londoners.

Being a ‘full-line’ store, customers can expect to find fresh meat, fish and cheese counters alongside a dedicated bakery, an extensive wine offering, and a whole lot more. This new opening swung open its doors bright and early this morning (October 22), and comes as part of a wider £1 billion investment plan that’ll see a number of new Watirose stores popping up across the country.
Alun Jones, head of physical estate at Waitrose, said: “Bridging the gap between our stores in Brent Cross and West Hampstead, Cricklewood is a brilliant location for Waitrose. Securing this iconic local building puts us at the centre of the high street near excellent transport links – the prime spot for our food-loving customers. We’re investing in new shops as well as our existing estate as part of out commitment to our customers and the communities we operate in.”
📍You’ll find the brand new Waitrose store at 194-196 Cricklewood Broadway, NW2 3BN.
